Our Mission & Vision

Sports for Children aims to make a sustainable and active contribution to the physical and social development of young children by promoting sports and physical activity, and by providing children in less developed countries with used sports equipment and play materials.

Our vision: Children are the future and should be empowered to shape their lives in a safe, livable, and healthy environment. According to Sports for Children, physical education, sports, and attention to sustainability play a key role in achieving this.

The Team

Our people are enthusiastic, loyal, and motivated. Every day, they use their talents and skills to help children around the world participate in sports and physical activity. Thanks to them, our logistics process, both in the warehouse and beyond, runs smoothly and efficiently.

Our team includes several permanent staff members. We are happy to introduce them to you, and you can also find their contact information here.

Our Volunteers

In addition to our permanent team, we have a flexible group of dedicated volunteers who support a wide range of tasks, from our webshop to facility management.

These loyal volunteers contribute wholeheartedly to the continuity and success of Sports for Children. Here you can find them all, along with a description of their unique roles.

Our Ambassadors

Epke Zonderland

Epke has taken gymnastics to a new level. He is a multiple-time world champion on the horizontal bar, winning gold in 2013, 2014, and 2018. In 2012, he became Olympic champion at the London Summer Games.

Epke is thrilled with how used sports equipment is being repurposed to give children a strong start in sports.

Sanne en Lieke Wevers

These well-known twin sisters have achieved many Olympic and other international successes as gymnasts. In particular, the balance beam holds no secrets for them.

They also believe that children around the world should have the opportunity to play sports, and they support the mission of Sports for Children.

Willy van de Kerkhof

As a former footballer, Willy van de Kerkhof won the Dutch League six times, the UEFA Cup, and the European Cup I. He earned 63 caps for the Dutch national team, including appearances in the finals of the 1974 and 1978 World Cups.

Proud of our collaborations

Our Warehouse en Workshop

At our Helmond location, we work tirelessly to refurbish the many sports equipment items we receive or collect. Our volunteers also passionately and creatively transform equipment into cabinets, tables, chairs, and benches—handmade and unique.

From inventory to the webshop, the entire logistics process can be seen here.

The walls are filled with awards, photos, and certificates, commemorating the remarkable journeys our sports equipment has made. They reflect the grateful and joyful responses to the efforts of our team and partners.

Our Social Workshop

When sports equipment can no longer be repaired or refurbished in our own workshop, materials such as mats, leather, and canvas are sent to a social workshop. There, they are transformed into beautiful bags!

Whether it’s a shoulder bag, bowling bag, backpack, or pencil case, each item is crafted with great care and dedication. Here too, we feel the importance of doing good together.

The materials are reused, giving them a second life—thanks to the passion and commitment of the people in the social workshop.

Advisory Committee

The purpose of the Advisory Committee is to expand the foundation’s network, helping to raise funds to cover the foundation’s costs.

It also aims to increase the visibility of Sports for Children and to provide the board with knowledge and expertise.

The Committee seeks to connect the organization with engaged and influential individuals from society, opening doors and strengthening its impact—with the help of many
